Visa No visa is needed at this time for U.S., Canadian and European Union citizens. Citizens of other countries should inquire about the possible need for a visa. The Schengen agreement among several European Union countries simplifies the process. The visa that one obtains from one of the countries that participate in Schengen is valid for travel to all countries of the European Union except the U.K., Ireland and, depending, Denmark. Thus, only one visa is needed. Please, inquire at the nearest Belgian. To simplify procedures ask for a tourist visa and mention you will be in Belgium as a tourist. *Please Note: If you travel through London and need a visa for the EU, you probably will need a visa for the U.K. as well, even though you are there only on transit to Amsterdam. Contact the U.K. consulate to clarify this. Daily expenses Students should budget about $25 per day to cover basic expenses (meals, dinner, snacks, local transportation, and incidentals). These expenses of course depend on individual taste, lifestyle, and currency rates. Course requirements Students will be expected: - to complete assigned readings;
- attend & participate regularly in scheduled activities, seminars, visits and discussions;
- and complete a final examination or paper to be administered in Europe or the US.
Students must also write a research paper. This paper is due in September, but the deadline can be extended to early December if needed. Daily schedule There will generally be one to two classes/seminars per day. Normally, evenings and weekends will be free for individual activities and for taking advantage of the many cultural and recreational opportunities available. Consent and release statement Students are required to execute a consent and release statement when applying, absolving the Institute and the Director of any responsibility for any accident etc. The statement is attached and should be signed and returned along with the application form. Insurance Students should take care of their own international health and accident insurance. It is highly recommended that students consult their insurance carrier about its policy for medical assistance while abroad. Students are also encouraged to acquire the International Student I.D. Card (ISIC) that carries a certain amount of additional insurance.
